The research at the Goethe University will focus around two main projects:
1. Changing travel patterns in European cities and regions
  • This will involve continuation of the update of Professor Kenworthy’s 1995 global cities database called the Millennium Cities Database for Sustainable Transport, extending it to more cities around the world and particularly a selection of European cities. The research will explore comparisons of cities worldwide and reasons behind the different transport patterns.
2. Mobility culture in German cities
  • This will focus on exploring in more detail the travel patterns and related aspects of German cities, using a wide range of available secondary data sources, in an effort to better understand what lies behind mobility culture in German cities and how it changes.
