Dr. Veit Bachmann

Veit Bachmann is the director of the interdisciplinary working group EuroGaps (together with Martin Müller) in the Department of Human Geography at the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main. Veit Bachmann is a political geographer with further research interests in (critical) geopolitics, development geography, international relations, European studies and global North-South relations. His conceptual work focuses on aspects of European integration, Europe’s role in the world and respective geopolitical discourses with a focus on European relations with developing countries. Empirically, he has worked extensively in East Africa on aspects of European and German development policies and local perceptions of Europe’s role in the world and towards developing countries.
After his undergraduate education in geography, international relations and economics at the Universität Trier, Germany, he obtained the degrees of MSc in geography at Texas A&M University, USA (2006) and PhD in geography from the University of Plymouth, UK (2009).
