Biography: After my MSc degree, I moved to South Africa where I worked on several research and conservation projects. Amongst others I worked for the South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON) in Phalaborwa, the University of Cape Town, BirdLife South Africa, the Organisation for Tropical Studies (OTS), and as a private environmental consultant. My research has focused primarily on African savanna vegetation.

  
My PhD research focusses on the phenology of African savanna plants, which will be studied in the field using eco-physiological methods and modelling techniques. The aim is to understand how environmental variables and plant traits determine plant phenology, and how processes within individual plants may be extrapolated to landscape or global scales.

  • Termites in arid systems
