Mallika Gupta is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Researcher at Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main. As part of the TRANSFORM-EU Project, Mallika is researching the impact of intersectional identities on the acceptability of transformative transportation policies in European cities. Mallika has a Master’s in City Planning from UC Berkeley, USA, and a Bachelor’s in Architecture from CEPT University, India. Her previous research examined the role of socio-cultural factors, gender-based violence, and racial harassment on the mobility of women from intersectional and vulnerable backgrounds. Mallika has worked as a mobility researcher and transportation planner in Europe, USA, and India.

  • Designed and analyzed community surveys, led stakeholder engagement workshops, and conducted focus groups and interviews to assess mobility barriers for underserved populations, evaluating public perceptions of transport policies, and ensuring inclusive policy development.
  • Conducted policy and plan reviews, feasibility assessments, demographic analyses, and GIS-based equity analyses for public transport projects (BRT corridors, Vision Zero plans, paratransit and TDM planning). 
  • Identified available federal and state funding by project scope and helped develop priority frameworks for disseminating funds while achieving equity goals for underserviced communities.

  • Developed project reports, presentations and visuals using Excel, GIS and Adobe Suite, providing equity-driven recommendations for the construction of gender-inclusive transit systems, resulting in high praise from the World Bank and Development Bank of Latin America.
  • Organized community engagement during Delhi Masterplan 2041 public comment period by organizing public meetings and door-to-door engagement; resulting in over 40,000 petitions being filed by low-income, immigrant, and socially-vulnerable community members.
